Not only that, you are looking at a 4-5 hour chase, as they are typically done by noon. Going west in the morning is not great for sun angles en route to Odgen. The stop in Harriman could be a super ZOO.
I had a nightmare the other night about driving in there on the two lane road, and finding 100 cars parked along the road and fans everywhere. Before I knew it there were 100 or more coming in behind me and I was trapped. Needless to say I go no shots the rest of the way to Laramie!!! I know that sounds a bit pessimistic but I have to realize I am not as young as I was 30 years ago, when I was chasing 3985 and 844 all over the place.
To that point if there are those chasing the Big Boy, and are shooting decent video, I might be interested in some for a production!!! I will not be shooting the trips in April or May, but might do something after all the hoopla dies down. Be safe, that's the most important thing. Being elbow to elbow in a photo line on the NG sounds like a picnic compared to what I expect on the UP. TRAINS mag is selling space on a CHASE BUS!!! Yikes! One friend of mine stated "This is not railfanning, nor fun!"
