It will be interesting how this works out with Avis. I might have been able to make it up the hill on a second, third or forth try (and beaten the @#$%& out of the car), but Jerry offered to get me back to town so I decided to park not fight. My original plan was to come back and get it after the highway folks had had a chance to sand the road. But the weather just got worse. When I called the local Avis office and told them I would really like to make my flight the next morning the fellow I talked to immediately offered the $50 deal. Since the weekly rate is not much more than what I paid for five days, a couple of extra days would not be too costly. And they certainly should charge me to fill the tank. Clearly they could try to screw me. We'll see. Next time I'll rent a 4x4, but I didn't really expect to be chasing.
But the good news is I finally got a couple decent flanger train pix. It was a great weekend of steam in the snow, and I mean REALLY in the snow. The D&S spent a lot of extra effort (read money) delivering some great photo ops, and when I got home I noticed that without asking they had already credited my account with a partial refund because they couldn't get us to Cascade. The D&S is a class operation.
For anyone interested some of my pix are here:
JBWX's pix of D&S last weekend . I can't post them here right now because they are on another computer.
