I rather doubt that. Class 42 engines, with 45" drivers, were designed for passenger service. ISTR seeing somewhere that #100 was used for the supers train and other such uses in later years.
I would suggest that a Class 56 2-8-0(basically a slightly smaller version of a class 60[later C-16]), of which the D&RG had a large number surplus at the turn of the 20th century. Most of these were also dismantled in 1908.
