The rider cars were staged ahead of time at Cumbres Pass. There really isn't much of a reason these days to stop and do runbys on the hill. 99% of the spots that you can do can be reached by road anyways, and it's far more expedient to have a motorcade (in our case, 2 busses) follow the train and let the train stop as needed to reposition the photo line. It takes a little extra time reassembling the consist at Cumbres Pass, but I think the results were worth it.
Love the video--there are a couple of spots on there I wish we had been able to do, but the logistics of bus parking with the amount of chasers out there (honestly, fewer than I feared ahead of time) forced a couple of changes in the plans.
