I believe some time back I posted a video clip showing some cab rides. One was a cab ride in 012-075 from Rheine to Nordeich Mole(Pier). That was in March 1975 and I had traveled alone with Euro-rail pass for 2 weeks when I did that. The last 2 weeks were spent with an English friend we met in 1974, and he had a car. One day we decided to go to the north end of the line, and chased a train for a few distant shots as it went north. When we got there we could see it was none other than 012-075, the engine I had received the cab ride in(I had set that up through the DB before leaving the U.S.). There was great urgency to see these last express steam engines in West Germany because the DB had picked out a date in May for withdrawing the remaining 3-cylinder 4-6-2's. Anyway we photographed 075 at Nordeich and after turning it backed to the coaches on the pier. Here ships from North Sea islands connected to the train. Trains ran south to Rheine, where electric engines took over to Cologne and other destinations. The following shot was a late afternoon look at 012-075 powering the train after it had departed the first stop at Nordeich. I found out some years back that this engine was saved and is located in nearby Holland I think. These things ran pretty consistantly at 120km, or 72 mph. A few years before this they were running 140, or 84 MPH. Dampf is besser YA!
