GREAT STUFF, Olaf -
THANK YOU for Sharing!!
(Added 7:30 PST - And thank you for the second list of Chama departures. The train we're discussing here was apparently the Tuesday, August 16 'Cumbres Turn' - the first heavy freight up the 4% in roughly seven weeks.)
I vaguely remember that the train actually stalled going around the S-Curves – the combination of weeds and friction due to the sharp curves being too much for the engines to overcome – and that they backed a few feet, laying sand, and tried again. IIRC, this happened two or three times over half an hour or more. But that was fifty-two years and a few months ago, so I won't stake my life on it. And I don't have any photos, as I was shooting movies with my dad's old wind-up 8-mm "toy", and have no idea where the movies may be or even if they still exist
