I have a friend that lives right in the area about 1 1/2 mile west from what was the FloraVista station......... Up hill from that area runs a irrigation ditch, un-lined, That whole area has natural seepage into the bottom land, on down hill to the Animas river. The water table in that area can be only a few feet down in places. Ranchers would need only to scoop out some dirt down a few feet and wait for it to infill.. There is only a couple feet of top soil, and then a bed of old glacier river rocks under it. the area is often sodden after rains. Having walked the ROW, and did some construction down their, it comes as no surprise of a underground water issue. It still causes grief to builders.
