I wonder how common this soft roadbed problem was. In 1965 just during the short period we were there they not only were fixing the Farmington branch fill, but they the soft spot at Bocea. And then again the following year they had the problem near Aztec. The old saw I heard from a DRGW division engineer was drainage, drainage, drainage. Perhaps as things were winding down on the ng. there was less attention paid to drainage so the problems became more common. The dirt in that area does not seem to do well with water, as those of us who have drive the back roads after a rain know so well. With regard to the 1965 dates, that is based both on the Kodak date stamps on the slide, and since I have some specific dates as well, I must have gotten some register or train sheet data from either Earl or Jimmy. As I get older and my memories less reliable, I am becoming a bit paranoid about stuff like this.
