I'm getting some conflicting info on the Farmington branch being closed to due to soft track problems. I visited in September 1965 and the branch was closed in order to rebuild a fill just south of Durango. Russo and others seem to be referring to a closure in 1966. Perhaps it happened both years. Here they are unloading a drag line to excavate the fill.
A short train was run from Durango to Chama to handle the lumber from Weideman.
But that train was delayed a day in leaving Durango by this problem near Bocea.
And interestingly the westbound from Chama following the short eastbound was long enough to require two engines. The helper was run light from Durango to Gato. I wonder where all the cars were going since the work on the Farmington branch fill had just started.
Was there another problem on the Farmington branch in 1966?
