The former EBT car behind JBWX-1 looks to have gotten a major rebuilding, including lowering the sides presumably to reduce the chances of overloading. My biggest concern for the cars was overloading, since their cubic capacity is based on the density of the coal they were built to haul, whereas ballast rock is a lot heavier. And overloading could easily break the back of the cars, that happened frequently on the standard gauge when coal cars were used to haul rock. Human nature seems to be to want to fill the cars to visible capacity. I amazed the cars have lasted this long, presumably the C&TS has treated them carefully and well.
