I'm from Australia and my view may be seen as totally irrelevant, but I would think that even a 3/4 size coupler is going to be far heavier than you might imagine!
I wouldn't think you would be able to lift it and your timber prop will have to be of pretty substantial construction.
Maybe a better option would be a suitably scaled wood carved (or even foam) link & pin coupler such as the Sams coupler that has been posted on this forum, complete with drawings.
Just my Aussie opinion.
