Reading the fine print, those are gross tonnages, Sharrod -

Which would account for the high figures between Chama and Alamosa prior to September, 1964; those tank cars are HEAVY – even when empty.  When loaded eastbound, two engines could handle only eleven at a time from Chama to Cumbres; see [ngdiscussion.net] for a photo.
