Ok guys, Here will start a bit of stuff about 04432 that we did and such as we restored her.
04432 has been found to have a few peculuires, As almost all converted 4000 series boxcars were turned into "work" cars, they were converted into what they were to be used for, and as cheep as the D&RGW was, most conversions were as simple as possible. With that in mind, 04432 has a few real different conversions to her.
We will start with the trucks.
This is the side frames of the trucks that has been on her from the earliest photos we could find.
First thing to notice is that it has a large wooden beam that the single coil spring sets on. Yup, only a single coil on each side.
And note the bars on top of the journal boxes, and extra bar from the normal Arch bar trucks.
And also notice that the bottom bar, slopes up from the bolster bottom, up to the bottom of the journal boxes.
For a comparison, here is the "caboose Trucks" on 0579
So what trucks are 04432's, We don't know when they were modified, but the oldest photos we could find showed them on her.
Here is the "Bumper" on the 04432's bolster and body.
And the "Bumper" on 0579
A complete different design, whats it mean? Just different from the normal work car setup.
And 04432 as we received her.
More to come.
