I graduated from high school (somehow) in 2000. I took a Computer Aided Design (CAD) class that was a two year course my Junior and Senior years. I found it by accident, and am glad I did. I have since owned about 5 different CAD programs, and have been drawing for 20 years, this year! Don't know if high schools still offer this, but it is worth it for sure!
Interesting side note: The first year was about 2D drawing, setting up features, windows, etc. The second year was 3D and color rendering / shading. At the beginning of the first year, the teacher showed us a 24 x 48 paper print out of a 3D space shuttle with the launch tower. He said anyone who presented him with their own version of this would be automatically passed, and could do what ever they wanted for the rest of the year. On the second year, it was the same, but shaded in, with lettering, and ground terrain etc... No one in the two years was able to do it... I feel today I could do it in a couple weeks!!!!
