Hello yet again -
Breakfast on the 24th was served on the train according to Terry Ross' "official" account, while the passengers enjoyed the unspoiled vista of nearly fresh snow as the train climbed past Dalton and crossed the old road beyond the "S" curves, IIRC more than half a mile east of the present crossing:

The road was clear enough to enable Ernie to get ahead of the train and catch these photos as it rounded the point below the state line:

. . . and approached the west end of Cresco siding:

I presume the train stopped for several minutes to allow inspection of the small trestle and the water tank at Cresco, which gave Ernie time to hike in above m.p. 333.5 (approximately) to the location known to us Phraud-O-Graphers today as Valley View. His telephoto shot of Hamilton's Point was the first one on a new roll of film, followed by a normal-lens shot as the train got closer:
