I have been enjoying the many photo postings of the network beyond Antonito-Farmington. As I look at these photos, it occurs to me that most of the pictured power continued on the Cumbres section after the rest of the network was scrapped or converted. But - if all this power was distributed over all these other lines: Salida, Monarch, Gunnison, etc., that must mean the Cumbres section during the late 1940s had a lot less activity and assigned power. If the non-Cumbres narrow gauge had not been abandoned, and continued with traffic, would there have been enough power to handle the oil field business boom of the mid to late 1950s?
