It certainly makes sense that the D&S would seek to publicize it's commitment to minimizing fire danger during the peak season, and what better way to emphasize this than by painting its specially modified locomotive – and only operational K-37 – in a special way! As curator of the D&S Museum, Jeff Ellingson is above all an historian, so if #493 does get a green jacket you can be sure she'll be painted (except for the railroad's name on her tender behind) as closely as possible to what she looked like when she came out ot Burnham Shops in 1928.
