Thanks again for the compliments!
We continue our journey at Long Meadow.
We are now outside the burn area from the Railroad Fire, so grade and artifact finding is a little more difficult...
The second part of MSP 1919-20 mainline branched off here and followed Long Meadow to the northeast.
Here's a view looking southwest down Long Meadow with the railroad grade on the right:
Here's a view looking up the meadow to the northeast:
Raymond Mountain is in the distance.
There was supposed to be a fairly long spur here that branched off to the east but I couldn't find any evidence of it...
There was an artifact in the meadow:
It's a very large (about 3 feet across), and very sturdy bucket. I have no idea what it was for, but it does look like its been here for about 100 years...
Driving up the grade about another 1/2 mile brought me to another spur that headed left(north):
I walked down this spur about 100 feet until it became choked with trees and brush:
This is usual view of railroad grades in the Sierra that are around 100 years old.
Attempting to explore this usually results in very slow progress and lots of frustration.
The Railroad Fire exposed grades and artifacts that would have been still hidden like this spur...
To be continued...
