Now I've found the upper end of the 1919-20 incline, let's see what's above it.
Unfortunately, the railroad grade plunges into thick brush immediately after summiting the hill:
I worked my way through the brush and came upon an old crushed can that looks like it once was sealed with a cork.:
I kept working my way around the brush. This appears to be the grade in one of the few areas clear of brush:
I then found this large stump next to the grade. It was at least 6 feet across:
I've seen very few stumps as nearly all in the burn area are gone. This area is just outside the burn.
Eventually the forest opened up to clumps of trees. I encountered a few cans and other scraps of metal and then this:
It was about 6 inches across and appears to be a gasket most likely off a donkey engine.
I think I was in the vicinity of the 1920 Camp, but it was hard to find much due to the clumps of trees and heavy leaf litter on the ground. At this point I had lost all traces of the railroad grade. I may have to return here again in the future to explore the area more completely. Having more sets of eyes would probably help as well...
Now its time to explore the incline railroad grade.
To be continued...
