The coal tipple engine runs again

July 01, 2000 07:41PM
I saw the eariler post on the tipple engine and found that I was left out of it. True, I was a paint crew member but after the first day of leisurely stripping of paint from boxcar rooves defected to the coal tipple team to shovel coal like I did last year. I wasn't officially a tipple crew member but I was there holding the torch to fire the Fairbanks-Morse the first time (second time I had diesel fuel on my hands, decided not to hold the torch). Last year I cleaned all the gooey slime out of the crankcase so it turned over easily. That was a case of being at the right place, right time, but Parker Fowler was there too, and he was looking for a sucker to clean it. Anyway I just wanted to make my point.
If anyone is looking for a contact for an article, Parker and I are the experts on this engine. I had an old Gas Engine magazine from the '70s that I brought along (though I'm not a subscriber), and Parker and I also have all the literature on our F-M in the crew.
