She's a bit large to be called an "industrial" locomotive in the usual sense of the word -
But ex-S.P. #18, recently restored in Independence, CA, is equipped with slide valves and Walschaerts valve gear. Note that when viewed with her wheels in "rods down" position the crank points to the rear rather than forward as when used with inside-admission piston valves, and that the radius rod connects to the combination lever below, rather than above, the valve stem — see first photo on [
