Riding the narrow gauge – Part 1a

September 28, 2018 01:31PM
Although most of us ride the C&TS and the D&S and never consider posting much about our adventures (which is true in my case as well), I decided to post a bit about my trip, since I posted earlier that I would be riding the C&TS parlor car for the first time. It seems I am never aware of what special things might be happening on the two lines when I make my plans, and the last couple to trips have been a pleasant surprise in one way or another.

We (my wife Kathy, son Nick and myself) arrived in Chama on Friday, September 21, late in the afternoon. We had stopped at Cumbres and had walked around a bit, photographing a few of the facilities. Arriving at the Chama yard we found four engines under steam (463, 484, 488 and 489) and one being steamed up (315 disguised as itself, wearing its original D&RG number 425). Something was going to be happening with the 315, but I didn’t know what exactly. (You need to click on each photo to see in separately to see them clearly.)
