Haven't been able to get away to get my own pictures of the progress on the narrow gauge ex-CMStP&P combine being replicated in Maquoketa, Iowa but my friend and neighbor Glen Thede did get these shots last weekend. Keep in mind this is still a work in progress. So this is what D&RGW 1191 has been turned into:
Phew, gotta love that Milwaukee Road passenger orange, eh? Glen says the interior is quite the masterpiece of woodworking by these fellas. When I was told by the museum director two years ago that they had several guys in the Maquoketa area that were pretty good at wood working and would be willing to create a replica combine car, I thought "well, we shall see". Their plan is to locate the combine on a section of track in front of the former Milwaukee Road LaMotte ng depot with a small cornfield behind it to give the visitor a feel for Iowa's slim princess narrow gauge running thru the Iowa countryside.
Now if they could just find a little Plymouth gas/diesel ng loco and a 1/4 mile of track................
