The trestle in the background of the Then photo is gone, but the bench for one of the bents is visible in the lower part of this photo:
Now, where is that incline?
I decided to snoop around a little at this curve in the road. Hiking about 30 feet up the hill to the south I spied this:
The bottom 30 feet or so was hidden by small trees, brush, and activities near the road that removed all traces visible from the road.
Here's a photo looking down from the same vantage point. you can see my truck parked approximately where the Then and Now photos were taken.
Hiking a little further upgrade, it was quite clear that this was the incline:
Since it was now around 11:30 am, I decided that I would need to hike this at a later date. We drove over to Jones Store on Beasore Road for some of the best burgers you can get in the woods and a slice of homemade blueberry/apple pie with ice cream:
Gotta keep the wife happy!
Sometime in the next few weeks I plan to return and hike to the top of the big incline. I'll be sure to take photos...
