I asked this question in another post but figured it would be better asked in another thread to help keep it from immediately getting off topic.
What exactly does the 497 require to be put back into service? A 1472 boiler inspection and...? What exactly is involved in a 1472 inspection? How is 497's running gear and other incidentals that are considered when a locomotive gets overhauled? Flues? Tender cistern? Tires? Brasses? Other things? How far away is the 497 from being able to return to service mechanically? Would it be considered sooner due to the small amount of work required or is there major work required to get it tip top versus another locomotive that might require more than "basic mechanical repairs"?
I appreciate your consideration and answers. It'd be a breath of fresh air to hear fact instead of speculation on this specific subject and many other subjects on this board (and I am quite sure that others here agree).
