BEDT #15 (now Thomas) was an oil burner with the firing controls all on the right side, I assume so one man could run her.
So she didn't lose her fire starting (when the engineer was too busy with the throttle), her exhaust stand was sawed off at about half height and had no nozzle at all, just two great big rectangular holes. No harsh draft there! I guess that they just ran the blower hard when they needed a good draft on the fire. I doubt that they had any continuous runs longer than 1/2 mile or so anyway.
