More fun with Photoshop

I ran across a slide taken in Guatemala back around 1970. It was dark and had a heavy magenta color shift. But I decided to see what Photoshop could do with it and after converting it to B&W came up with a fairly decent result. The second image is what I started out with, the first is the new and improved version. It is amazing how much detail is hidden in all those dark shadows in Kodachrome.

More recently and closer to home I took an early morning picture at Silverton that even with all the dynamic range of digital the camera was unable to deal with the contrast between the sun hitting the peak and the train in the dark down below. The version out of the camera had seemingly blown out highlights and too much dark shadow. But the detail was all there, all it took was some Photoshop adjustments to put things together in a reasonably interesting way.
The picture was a October 7, 2016 photo special on the D&S getting ready to leave in the morning.
