U10B 's have axle-mounted nose-hung traction motors GE761, same as our DH and DX/DXC/DXB/DXR variants. GE's catalog lists 761 for 3ft gauge as well. The 15 and 19 have truck mounted tm's.
600 class C-B-Cs would be under powered and very slow.(although that is one awesome looking early diesel
something I'd like to see) The GA8 would be a maintenance nightmare costwise for the D&Sng. The G8( and GA8), underpowered and not much faster on grades, MCS of about 18 - 20 KM/h, having driven DB and the rebuild DBR, fine for a couple of carriages and a roadsider wagon otherwise they bogged down and couldn't keep a schedule, even on lighter 1in57 grades.
Looking back to the days of a proper train, here in Ray Mathewson's picture DBR struggles with a full Bay Express [flic.kr]
this 951hp 4motor still had to drag this consist back up the 1in42 Opapa bank on the return trip, and that would have put the unit into the short time ratings for maybe a little over the recommended time for the D29 tm's.
