K36 Smokebox Fronts - fabrication?

I've always wondered when they wear out. Now, here's the question I'm really intrigued by: How will they be fabricated? My limited understanding is that door is cast, and sometimes parts of the front were cast originally, but I could also see them being a hotwork stamping.

Inquiring minds want to know! :-)
