At this point Ernie skipped the train's climb past Hamilton's Point, through Coxo, around Windy Point and the re-assembly of the cars left by the earlier Cumbres turn into the consist, and instead drove to Apache Crossing and followed the rough dirt road south across Cumbres Creek and then east along the south side of the Rio de los Pinos to a place where he apparently climbed the hillside across from Cascade Creek. He got there in time to photograph helper #483 crossing the big trestle on her solo run from Cumbres to Alamosa
