I'm curious. When the locomotives were parked, what was done to prepare them for storage, and then what was done to bring them back online?
I know the fires were dropped, but were the locomotives drained? Did any points of lubrication require attention?
How did they fire them up without being able to artificially induce draft via an electric fan on the stack? Aside from an inspection, what else is typically done to wake up a locomotive that has been slumbering for a short while out in the wild?
I don't know about everyone else, but I find the procedures in the shop, roundhouse, and behind the scenes in general to be as interesting as seeing the trains run.
