The D&RG began painting passenger equipment Pullman Green in September, 1918. Cars were painted as they came due for shopping, so there would have been an overlap of red and green painted cars, and possibly some consists running with some red and some green cars for a year or more.

Personally, I much prefer the Pullman green cars to the maroon / Tuscan. Having said that, I wholeheartedly support the decision by the C&TS to opt for the red cars as a marketing tool. The train consists look very attractive, and if that red paint helps to put fare-paying riders in seats, it is fine with me. I can live in the hope that some time there will be enough interest and dollars on the part of the photographers to pay for a nicely matched Pullman green passenger consist behind one of the appropriately lettered locomotives, circa 1928 or 1930. In the meantime, I am looking forward to seeing 168 and the appropriate historic passenger train looking like it steamed out of a time warp from 1916. What we have seen so far looks simply outstanding. A tip of the ol derby to all the C&TS and Friends people who have accomplished so much.
