From June 22-24, Historic Railroad Will Offer Three Affordable Daily Excursions to Its Event Park Just Outside of Durango; From June 25 to July 3, Popular Railway Will Transport Guests from Its Rockwood Station to Scenic Cascade Canyon
DURANGO, Colo. - June 21, 2018 - PRLog -- The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroadâ„¢ (D&SNGRR) (http://www.durangotrain.com/), which offers distinctive year-round rail experiences and special events to passengers of all ages in the remote, scenic wilderness and high-mountain landscape of Colorado's San Juan National Forest, today announced it is launching three daily diesel locomotive excursions to multiple locations, starting Fri., June 22 and continuing through Tues., July 3. The railroad finalized plans to roll out alternative diesel passenger service following extensive consultations with applicable government agencies, community stakeholders, and business and marketing partners regarding current fire, drought and weather conditions.
In addition, the D&SNGRR also stated today it is planning a return to its traditional summer season steam train passenger service to Silverton on Wed., July 4, with multiple daily excursions and select riding and adventure packages available for guests provided favorable weather, drought and fire conditions. The railroad will continue to monitor all factors needed to resume Silverton service, and will update passengers as more current information becomes available. Both announcements follow yesterday's joint declaration by the U.S. Forest Service, San Juan National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, and the city of Durango, to reopen public lands this afternoon.
"After many discussions with city, county, state, and federal officials, the D&SNGRR is excited to be back in action and to offer alternative limited-range diesel locomotive passenger service to Four Corners-area visitors over the next two weeks," said John Harper, general manager of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. "These excursions will allow guests to have a high-quality, Durango-style family adventure, while experiencing the railroad's rich history and the area's scenic beauty. More importantly, this gives us sufficient time to fully prepare for the anticipated relaunch of our steam train passenger service to Silverton on the Fourth of July."
From Fri., June 22 through Sun., June 24, the D&SNGRR will transport guests round trip three times daily from its depot in downtown Durango to its event park several miles outside of the city. From Mon., June 25 through Tues., July 3, the railroad will operate three round-trip excursions every day from its Rockwood station to scenic Cascade Canyon. All fare and schedule information for these excursions can be found on the railroad's website at www.durangotrain.com.
