Greg, I think I said OF was rebuilt. I believe the first time it was used on the D&S was the winter of 81-82. When the D&S got it from the scrapper, the wide wings had to be opened manually, which was very hard to do and dangerous for the crews. So the power reverses from the K-28s were applied, the wings had to be operated from the caboose so 0505 was modified to operate the wings, one crew man on each side. In the first photo you can see the wing braces which were kept by the D&S for history and in the even it has to be used manually.
When OF was rebuilt in 2015, the controls were moved from 0505 to 0540.
The D&RGW had two wide wing flangers, OF and OL. OL was based out of Salida until 1955 when it was moved to Alamosa. OF had been based out of Alamosa for use on Cumbres. OL still has the manually operated wide wings. It is out of service due to broken deck frame from the last time it was used. Note the wide wing braces on the deck.
