Droughts and lightening are always going to be a risk. The reason it's such a greater risk now is because of our historical/current management technique. There's only one way to reduce the available fuel and that's by allowing fires to burn. Historically we haven't done this so over the years the fuel has built up to the point that there's so much on the ground that when a fire does start, there's no hope of controlling it and the heat kills everything.
