This photo [
ngtrainpics.photoshelter.com] shows the south side of the Taos Junction ‘water closet’. The ICC Valuation map says it was 10’x16.’ There were very similar facilities on the RGS at Placerville and Telluride, but I’m sure similar structures were all over the narrow gauge.
First, I assume that ‘water closet’ is a polite term and there wasn’t actually any water (plumbing) inside?
Based on the view blocks the RGS employed, I seems each gender was allocated half the building, or roughly 5’x16’. But why
two doors? I assume the building was mirror imaged, so I guess there are two more doors on the opposite side?

So why five doors on an outhouse for two people?
