Ernie somehow managed to get ahead of the train again just beyond the crossing at Apache Road. There's hardly anything left of the snow fences today

There was a lot more snow at m.p. 329 near the top of the pass fifty years ago than there is right now

It almost looks like a plow or spreader has cleared snow off the tracks at the summit

I've never seen any mention of a snow-clearing operation in 1968. Maybe it was the contractor building the new road, clearing the way for the surveyors.
