Almost looks like a flag pole on the top? Also looks way to big to be a lightning rod from what i have seen on old buildings in the mid west.

We have witnessed valley
and plain and crest,
Canon and pass we've scanned;
We have seen the best
of the glorious West,
by the trail of the Rio Grande
