One of the interesting projects happening at Como these days is the recreation of the "outdoor lighting" that the DSP&P had in Como back in the 1880s. In the picture below, we have a sea of Congdon stacks and big, box headlights. However, if you look again, not all the headlights are attached to the front of a locomotive.
Yes, the South Park took headlights off old, retired locomotives and mounted them to the corners of the stone roundhouse to provide night time lighting for the engine crews working into the night.
So, one of our volunteers, Phil Carney has been working to build 3 replica "UP" Styled head lights. Two of these lights will be mounted to the corners of the Como Roundhouse this summer using the same mounting hole in the stone that the originals used. When they are completed and lite-up, It will be interesting to see just how much light the old timers had to work with.
The Como project is working on their Spring Fundraiser Campaign and we have gotten of to a good start thanks to a few generous supporters. If you would like to help support the effort to bring the Como Railyard back to life, please consider a donation

We hope you will be able to come out to Como this summer and see all the progress.
