Jim, read Earls replies above, as he did mention the rotary train running out of water at Cresco and the third engine had to get all the snow. I think it was 484, and I think it was 1993.
Back to the regular service thing a moment. In 1994 Les Jarrett and I showed up at Sugarcreek, OH to do the Ohio Central, and their ex CN 4-6-0 1551. The train had just come in and after uncoupling from the coaches the engine went off on a spur and did some switching of box cars. This was a brick factory and a full load came out while an empty was placed in the siding for the company. So I guess this was regular service, or freight business with the steam engine doing the work. I got a bit of it on video. The engine was pointed north. Afterwards it went north to be turned so it was facing south for our video work the next day(Into the sun). Once in awhile the engines were used for real revenue freight. I heard they handled a local once in awhile, but of course I never saw it.
Back to the Craft trip for one last mention. I was pretty sure it was the Craft trip because the 0503 was about the only thing lettered C&TS. John told me several folks complained about it. So in May the next year I paid for it to be Rio Grande, for our charters after the 93 Rotary. Later than year is when it went off the wye, much to my dismay!!!! I think it has remained in Rio Grande livery ever since then. Its the only Rio Grande caboose that came to the C&TS in 1970. Of course now they also have the short one which the Friends with Bill Kepler built!
