Generally you can tell poisonous snakes by their bigger head, which is somewhat like a triangle or arrow-head, and its much larger than the rest of its body. Also of course if it rattles you know to scram. In the past I used to charge down spots like Cresco not thinking about snakes for some reason, maybe cause it was colder weather. I have also heard Sublette is about the cut-off point for rattlers (Antonito-Sublette). That country looks like it would be ripe for them. Its still pretty wild country along the railroad, which is part of the charm.
