I have lived at 6644 feet for 3 years and at 5800 feet for 30 years before that, so you adjust. I cannot climb as fast and as steep as I did in the past, but I have hiked from Shalona Crossing to Rockwood and back several times and did OK.
Most challenging is hiking down to good spots in February when it is 19F.
