The DRHS is coming to the finish of the #39 30' reefer restoration. This week we will be putting the final paint job on, cumulating a long total restoration. During the rebuild we have discovered numerous details about the life of #39, such as once upon a time it had a knuckle pulled out and one side of the center sills replaced with a spliced in new beam end.
One of the things we noticed was on both ends of the cars exterior, High up, below the facia boards, A lot of nail or tack holes in the siding. These are not staple holes, but a nice small round size holes.
It appears to us as that some sort of placard or shipping label or notice was tacked to the ends. We can find no photos or references that shows what would have been attached to the cars, and why?
Here are photos of A end,
And the B end,
This will all be painted over this week, Any help solving this would be greatly appreciated.
