Don't know where you were looking, but I have viewed every D&RGW narrow gauge photo at the Colorado RR Museum, Dick Kindig was a friend and let me look at all his slides. While a few switch engines and branch line engines were dirty at times, I did not see very dirty engines, just regular service grime.
