Resurrecting a bit of an old thread -
I stopped in Cimarron on my way from Lake City to Montrose this past weekend to check out 278. Yep, still in the fenced in area which is kinda disappointing. I realize the reasoning for not putting it back on the trestle, but in the meantime it sits forlorn in isolation. You can see it if you look quickly from Hwy. 50, but you have to go searching and view it from odd angles through a chain link fence if you actually stop to see it. It's all but hidden. And, as it sits (facing its tender rather than coupled to it) it's completely exposed to the elements, just as it would be on the trestle.
The cosmetic restoration looks great from what I could tell through the fence. It'd be a shame if it's just allowed to deteriorate again out of view as it currently is.
Does anyone know of a plan or timeline? Or for that matter, somewhere where an interested party could donate a few $$ to help get it properly protected and displayed?
