My post in the C&S thread was based on documentation I have seen and have on file somewhere.
Two gons were fitted with 3-way couples, one end each car.
Reason for that arrangement was to handle C&S narrow gauge traffic between Leadville and Buena Vista. That was accomplished by placing the converted gon with narrow gauge consist behind the caboose on standard gauge trains. The two gons were converted specifically for that purpose.
As to the car in Santa Fe, my guess is both ends were fitted with 3-way couplers.
