Derailment on Cumbres 85 years ago

Engine 477 derailed while the lead engine on No. 115 on February 22, 1933.

No. 115 with 477-488. 488 added account flanger.
477 engineer Allbee (20)
488 engineer Good (23)
Conductor Edmisten

Departed Alamosa 10:05 AM with 6 cars (2 hrs. 55 min. late)
Arrived Antonito 11:15 AM. Set out 2 cars for Santa Fe branch
Departed Antonito 11:25 AM (3 hrs. 5 min. late)
Big Horn: 11:59 AM, section foreman on phone, reports 115 stuck down about MP 293.
12:10 PM Edmisten on his phone, reports engine 477 derailed, off ties, 18 poles west of MP 293, snow 5 to 6 feet deep on 1 side packed hard, no snow in Furgeson, little at 290. 8 hours to clear after tool cars arrive, have to kill engine 477. No body hurt. (Other notations) Figure can get 488 loose and back to Lava OK. Tank of engine 477 rerailed and into clear Lava 9:30 PM.

Passenger train 115 of 2/22 becomes passenger extra east with 488.

Departed Antonito 6:05 PM. Ran as 116 on the normal schedule out of Antonito.

Departed Alamosa 2:00 PM.
Arrived Antonito 3:15 PM. Departed 3:30 PM
Worked at derailment until 10:30 PM, then released until 6:30 AM for full rest.

Work extra 482 west, wrecking outfit of 2/22.

Conductor E Morgan (caboose 0517)
Bennett (?) phone (9:50 AM 2/23) will have engine 477 on about 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM. Engine on at 12:30 PM, then had dig out junk from under engine.

Arrived Antonito 5:50 PM
Departed Antonito 6:15 PM
Arrived Alamosa 8:15 PM
