Actually there is much confusion, the Railroad Pass (and Veta Mt.) was renamed on USGS maps
But the D&RG
did cross Veta Pass with the narrow gauge line.
The D&RG did not change the name either, only the replacement SG route was called La Veta Pass. These two different names were on the Depot Signage and in ETT and Public Timetables, the respective SG La Veta Pass (EDIT) being
renamed Fir at some later time along with the side trackage at the top of the pass.
I would be fairly certain the North designation renaming came about with the Highway changes since they too diverted from the original NG allignment sometime in the 1960's. For a synopsis read pg32/33
The Colorado Pass Book by Don Koch.
note: He made no distiction between the Railroad variations here.

I wouldn't place great faith in the USGS either as they have juxtapolated the Huerfano Park maps on their site. Note the Filenames reflect this anomality, I placed them in the order that I think is correct.

This might seem a little pedantic, but I would stick to facts, not revisions lest the "new Guy" be misinformed. It is your Country, Railroad and Map, not mine but I still feel the same way, And I go with the Railroad name(s).
