Right, William -
#498 was #493's helper westbound from Alamosa on Monday, 08/28/67, and #497 arrived from Durango with the eastbound train not long after they got to Chama late in the afternoon. On Tuesday #498 continued on west to Durango with the loads for Farmington, and JBWX and I each followed John Gruber's
TRAINS train up the hill with #493 and #497. For 'The Rest of the Story' – and numerous photos from the early and mid-sixties (unfortunately including several very fuzzy ones) – click on the link above, and then go to the top of that thread.
