The only documented K-36 to have a green boiler was 489 in 1950 and it was applied because the RMRRC requested a green boiler to enhance their photos. I'm not going to debate this topic to death as it has been done repeatedly over the years, but I will add these comments and pics. That boiler in the pic is black. See the attached photos of 489 with a green boiler taken by Dick Kindig and the Richard B Jackson photos of 492 and 499 showing that the paint used on the boiler jacket was not the same as what was used on domes and appeared to be a lighter color with more sheen. But, they are black.
